Isopropyl alcohol

Description

Isopropyl alcohol is a colorless liquid that has a strong alcohol odor which is stronger than the smell of ethyl alcohol. Freezing point: about 89 ° C below zero. The substance’s vapor mixes easily with air and forms an explosive mixture at high vapor concentrations, so it must be handled in a well-ventilated area and kept away from open flames and heating appliances.

Isopropanol is toxic by inhalation and if swallowed, may cause skin irritation, poisoning, or even death. Isopropyl alcohol is more toxic than ethyl alcohol.

Isopropanol dissolves natural and some synthetic resins, ethylcellulose, polyvinyl butyral, most fats well. Not suitable for working with rubber and some plastics. It does not react with the saline solution, which is used to extract it from the aqueous solution.

This substance is mainly used as a solvent in manufacture, perfumery, and household chemical products. Can also be used:

– in the automotive industry. Due to its low freezing point, the material has been widely used in the manufacture of coolants and car windshield washers.

– in electrical engineering, electronics, metallurgy, furniture, and fiber optics, isopropyl alcohol is used as a cleaning agent.

– Home use. Propanol-2 is less toxic than most solvents that are used around the house. It removes various stains, glue, grease, several, fabric dirt from wooden, metal, and glass surfaces.
